Overpriced. I was charged for a “diagnostic” for a mechanic taking in and putting out a tail light ($55) this was also done and replaced for free at Valvoline down the street, something Karch Auto also charged me $500 dollars for. Beware of this place, especially if you’re a college student, they are crooks.
Chris, sorry to hear that you feel we did not provide appropriate service to you back in April. So for the purpose of clarity to the general public, your vehicle came in to our shop with an inoperative drivers rear tail lamp. We removed the rear tail lamp and found that it is of an LED construction that does not have replaceable bulbs, so we tested the necessary circuitry to ensure that the lamp was receiving power and ground to operate which it was. This check over, or diagnosis as it is also called requires the use of specialized testing equipment and subscriptions to data service providers so that we can know what circuits to test to get answers to problems like these. We reinstalled the component and provided you an estimate of what it would cost to replace the taillight assembly with a new one. The cost of the taillight was $450.83 and to remove and reinstall it would have been $55. It's great for you that Valvoline replaced it for you at no labor cost, unfortunately we can not do work for free, as our technicians also need a paycheck so they can pay for things like food and electricity, and the company can pay for its expenses to operate as well. We never charged you $500 for anything we simply gave you a quote as to what it was going to cost installing a new part. What do you feel should have been an appropriate charge and do you believe that companies and employees should work for free? I feel bad for Valvoline, they provided you a service that apparently you could not do on your own and they didn't receive a compensation for services rendered to you.
